Imagine if Social Rec & Camp was an option for you...
Post Date:May 03, 2018
What are you doing this summer?
Imagine if camp and social recreation programs were an option for you...
Help us make this a reality!
Did you know that one of the ways regional centers matched people with needed services was through camp and social recreation programs? These services helped people with developmental disabilities be better integrated into their communities and improved socialization skills. And as an extra benefit, these services acted as an important break for families that respected cultural preferences for home-based family care. But in 2009, the Legislature cut those services, and people could no longer access supports they needed.
ARCA is part of a broad coalition of advocates pushing the Legislature to restore these services. In just a couple weeks, Governor Brown will release his revised Budget proposal, and when he does, they'll start pushing the Legislature to make sure these low-cost, high-benefit services.
They need your help! Will you share your story of how social recreation and camp services benefited you... or would, if they were restored? They'll be lifting up your voices, and want to be sure our elected representatives hear this loud and clear....Restore My Services!
And there's another opportunity to help...
Next Thursday, May 10th, the Senate Budget Subcommittee that works on developmental disabilities is holding a special hearing on our issues. They'll be talking about three things:
Social recreation & camp
Housing and developmental center closures
Asm. Holden's request for bridge funding for service providers
Join in Room 4203 at the State Capitol some time that morning! The hearing will start no sooner 9:30 am, as soon as the Senate's usual daily meeting finishes. More info to come, but for now...save the date!
