2010/2011 PROPOSED Budget Changes:On January 8, 2010 Governor Schwarzenegger released his proposed state budget for fiscal year 2010/2011. The proposed budget will need to go through legislative review and approval prior to implementation July 1, 2010. This review and approval process often results in changes to the Governor's original proposal. The Governor has proposed additional funds of $162 million to the Regional Center system due to growth in the number of consumers served, as well as to cover potential costs to the Regional Centers for the funding of services that were provided by other agencies but have been reduced (such as IHSS and MediCal.) Some of the $162 million is for funding services for children under 3 years old. The Governor has also proposed $25 million in cuts to be determined by an advisory committee to the Department of Developmental Services (DDS.) He has also kept in place reductions from previous fiscal years.
