Since January 1, 2006, people with Medicare, regardless of income, health status, or prescription drug usage had access to prescription drug coverage, under Medicare Part D. Medicare prescription drug coverage is an insurance that covers both name brands and generic prescription drugs at participating pharmacies in your area. Medicare prescription drug coverage provides protection for people who may have very high drug costs. Extra help is available for people with limited income and resources. If you qualify for extra help, Medicare will pay for almost all of your prescriptions drug costs. You can apply or get more information about the extra help by calling Social Security at 1-800-772-1213 (TTY 1-800-325-0778) or visiting www.socialsecurity.gov For more information about Medicare Part D (prescription drug coverage), please view the following links. http://www.medicare.gov http://www.cms.hhs.gov Your Medicare & You 2006 handbook explains in detail what prescription drug coverage means to you which plans are available in your area.
