The State of California is preparing to implement a Self Directed Services Program at all 21 Regional Centers. Individuals who choose to participate in this program are responsible for securing their own supports and services, with support, from a predetermined individual budget. Traditional Regional Center purchase of service standards will not apply to service purchase decisions. ELARC, in partnership with Area Board 10 (ABX), has been a pilot center for the Self Directed Services program. Called “Self Determination,” a small group of ELARC consumers and families have been managing their budgets, securing services, and working with staff and the community to pioneer this very different service delivery model.
