ELARC consumers have created a "Guide to Healthy Living". The guide is written by consumers for consumers. A valuable resource, it can be used by any individual to promote health awareness, self-advocacy and personal planning. The funding for this project was provided by a grant from L.A. Care, to improve the health and wellness of people with disabilities. ELARC worked with the Board Resource Center to develop a series of meetings and trainings that included the development of a support system for wellness. That system of support included a nutritionist, fitness trainer, wellness coach, peer mentor, and peer support group. The sessions provided excellent opportunities to achieve great personal health outcomes, learn about food, movement, feeling good, making many friends, and creating a valuable guide of which they are very proud. The guide is available in English, Spanish, and Chinese. Or if you prefer, ask your Service Coordinator for a small and glossy Guide that is bound and eaiser to carry with you! The L.A.
